Finnish Sauna

Sauna as we know it today originated in Finland, a country in Northern Europe. The Finnish sauna has existed for over 2,000 years.

It is believed that saunas exist in the form of holes dug in a slope. The sauna was then evolved into a cabin made of logs with a fireplace and high schools. Until the 19th century, it was common that births take place in a sauna.

The sauna was often the cleanest room in the house. Healers and shamans had the habit of using the sauna to cure diseases and purify the body. Since then, the sauna has evolved into a full-fledged part of the house. The sauna is still considered a sacred place protected by the spirits of the forest.
